EUROPEAN CHAMP MILLER AT LAST PERFORMS

Reigning European champion Joe Miller from London waited until the final event of this year’s season to show the power that won him the title in 2005.

On a perfect grid, teeing off from the 9th green of Hollystown’s lovely course, Miller blasted the second Pinnacle of his semi-final to over 370 metres! (403yds). He carried this form on to the final where he drove 351m (382yds) to beat Sweden’s pair of Marcus Edblad and Mikael Lindblom by 9 metres. Miller’s win means that all of the National title rounds have been won by different players, indicative of the growing strength in depth of the long drive scene in Europe.

This result saw World No.3 Adam Stacey (England) top the season long Order of Merit table by seven points from Edblad and Finland’s Janos Uotila a further 3 points adrift. Edblad and Uotila will now join Stacey in representing Europe in the World finals in Las Vegas in October.

In the Ladies division, once again Jessica Wallstrom’s 271m (295yds) convincingly powered past fellow Swede, Helena Rhodin to claim another national title. Senior Brian Doyle (England) also proved too much for Dutchman, Henk Van Den Berg with his drive of 280m (305yds), setting the pace for the next days action.
